Lawn care – our lawn care services include; lawn mowing, fertilizing, aerating, and weed control.
Lawn mowing is done with professional grade equipment which provide a superb quality cut. Our machines are well maintained and our blades are always sharp. Your lawn will always have pronounced ‘stripes’ and we alternate our mowing direction regularly to avoid making ruts in the lawn. Trimming and edging are done with utmost precision that comes with years and years of experience and an eye for detail. All hard surfaces are then blown clean and cleared of grass clippings.
Fertilizing is a very important aspect of lawn care, often overlooked or forgotten about. Your lawn requires nutrients not only for optimal growth, but for a deep, rich colour, and resistance to pests, diseases, and temperature changes. Our fertilizer programs are done in four applications. We use a granular fertilizer with varying NPK numbers depending on what time of year it is and the requirements of your lawn. Again, professional equipment is utilized and properly calibrated, and the amount of nutrients we use is specifically formulated based on the square footage of your property. Excess granules are then blown off of hard surfaces to avoid staining.
Aerating is another important step in having a healthy lawn. We use a machine that pre-rolls the turf and then pulls plugs of soil out and deposits them on the lawn where they decompose. A criss-cross pattern or two-pass system is used to double the amount of holes per square foot providing a much better level of aeration. The purpose of aerating the lawn is to break up compacted soil and to allow better drainage. The holes help water and nutrients to soak in and also allows oxygen to reach the root system. Your lawn will start to thrive after an aeration treatment.
Weed control has become a serious issue for a lot of homeowners and we can help you. Safety for children and pets is a priority for us. We use chelated iron which kills broadleaf weeds in the lawn, down to the root, with no damage to the turf. A horticultural vinegar is used for grassy weeds in walkway and garden bed areas. For crabgrass control, we apply corn gluten in the early spring which produces a thin film on top of the soil, acting as a barrier to prevent the weed seeds from germinating. These are the safe and legal alternatives to chemicals.
Sod – If you’re thinking of renovating your lawn by replacing it with new sod, we can help. A free consultation can be arranged and a property analysis will be done to explain the best solutions available to you. What you can expect is a measurement of the property, a visual inspection of the area, and the options that are available. When a new lawn or sod job is needed, we mechanically remove the existing lawn, add new soil and grade, lay sod, and then roll the area to ensure good contact between the sod and the soil.
Top-dressing is done by raking new soil into the lawn, spreading grass seed, rolling the lawn to ensure good seed to soil contact, and then finished with a starter fertilizer.
Whichever method is chosen, rest assured that quality is our top priority and our workmanship is guaranteed. All you have to do is water your lawn.
Maintaining garden beds can be a lot of work, most people just don’t have the time or the energy. As a horticulture technician, I have extensive knowledge of plant material including pruning requirements, plant culture and the proper care of your shrubs, trees, and flowers. We manually pull the weeds, remove spent blooms on your flowers, and trim or prune your shrubs using the proper technique. If you desire a well maintained garden bed, give us a call, or if you’re a current client, ask about adding this service to our scheduled visit.
Mulch offers a protective barrier against cold temperatures, it aids in moisture retention, weed suppression, it also adds nutrients and organic matter back to the soil, as well as a new-found beauty to your existing gardens. Available in numerous colours, you’re sure to find one that’s right for you. We deliver and install mulch by the cubic yard and in some cases, by the half-yard, a cubic yard covers about 100 sqft at a 3? depth. Mulch decomposes over time, so installing fresh mulch will rejuvenate your gardens and offer better weed suppression.
Garden beds should be topped up and amended with fresh new soil every few years. Whether you’re planning a new garden, or amending an existing area, we can help. We also spread or install soil for sod or over-seeding. Decorative stone is popular for walkways, garden beds, and drainage areas. Available in several sizes, textures and colours, stone can be a very versatile part of your landscape.
Spring cleanup – Spring time is such a nice and welcomed time of year, but there is always a lot to do. Garden beds need to be cleaned out, regardless if there was a fall cleanup or not. Leaves blow in from neighbours yards, litter finds its way into your gardens, ornamental grasses and perennials need to be cut, beds need to be edged….and the list goes on. Give us a call and let us take care of getting your property into shape.
Fall cleanup – Fall is a lot of people’s favourite time of year, the leaves are changing colour, the lawn is still growing, and the temperature still makes working outside bearable for some. As the leaves begin to fall, the work begins, and soon you’re overwhelmed with the amount of leaves that need to be raked up and taken to the curb. We have an efficient way of leaf cleanup using leaf blowers, rakes, and tarps. A final mow is usually done while bagging any stray leaves, leaving your property immaculately clean. Fall is an excellent time to apply fertilizer if you haven’t signed up for our seasonal fertilizer package.
Cleaning your eavestrough should be a routine part of your regular house maintenance. As leaves, seeds, twigs, and other debris collect in your eavestrough, water can no longer flow freely off the roof. This water then either backs up under your shingles and rots the underlying plywood, or the water rolls over the gutter and rots your soffit and fascia and wreaks havoc on your landscaping – not to mention offering a safe haven for insects and unwelcome odours. Call us any time of the year if you suspect your eavestrough or downspouts may be clogged. Prices vary by one and two story homes, as well as by roof pitch and accessibility.
